Wishing for a one click file organizer
I have always had this dream. I hoped that I would just click one button and all the downloaded files in my Download directory would sort themselves and go to neatly identified directories that just work. Unfortunately, no operating system gives a one click file organizer to us by default. Windows Explorer, Nautilus, Konqueror – all fail to deliver in this respect. Sure there are apps, that do similar things. But they require a setup and are often complicated to use.
So I decided to code on my own. I wanted to build an app that would simply be a single or one click Organizer. I would enter the directory in the text box, press a single button and the files belonging to their different extensions will put themselves into their own respective folders.
For example, all image files will go to a folder named ‘Images’, all document files will go to ‘Documents’. All the videos will go to ‘Videos’ and so on. The idea was simple but I could not find anything that could meet my requirements. So I had to invent the wheel. With a few lines of code that are up on github, I am happy to bring you a simple one click file organizer that will do the organizing for you.
Disclaimer – Though this file works pretty well for me and some others, you need to understand that this is still a work in development. Actually this is in the pre-alpha stage, so bugs are there. Please take a backup if you want to try organizing more serious directories.
For the most part, it will work just fine. It has not failed me once since the last updates and you can send me a screenshot of any bug you find.
How to run or install?
I recommend you download the code for this file organizer master zip from here or clone it via git and then build from source by opening the .vbproj file. You will need Visual Studio installed for this. There are no third party dependencies, so it should work fine as is. In case you are adventurous and wish to use a packed executable, here it is – Download Organyz
